Cause, Effect and Vacuity

major causes of mental illness in human beings.

When quantum mechanics, with its probabilities and quality of data, appears instead of the quantities and events of classical physics, it destroys the determinism of the relationship between cause and effect.

For example, it becomes very difficult to consider the almost instantaneous decay of high-energy particles entirely due to chance.

Within our Aristotelian dichotomous approach to reality, we oscillate between necessity and luck.  For the hermetic philosophy that underlies quantum mechanics, it is in the movement of this pendulum that creativity arises.

And following the example of the decay of particles, would this effect occur without the need for a cause, or do we simply not know what that would be?

Here we return to the issue of ontological chance that we explored earlier.

What is definitely not present in the "particle decay" effect is linearity, and without it, there is no Arrow of Time.

In ontological chance, the probabilities of events are bundled; they are contextualized in relationships.  We really lost our footing in this approach that was going so well when we insisted on the Arrow and not the Frequency of Time.  It's where creativity is tamed and spontaneity is lost.

Perhaps if we focus on the Frequency of Time, in the context we observe, we will find the organizing principle, the ordered island, or the holy grail that will reveal the bridge between Chaos and Complexity.  That's what we propose in Omphalos.
