The Intelligences and Penrose

“I am so clever that sometimes I don't

understand a single word of what I am saying.”

Oscar Wilde

In 1989, Roger Penrose wrote The Emperor's New Mind, a book about where artificial intelligence was headed.

From the top of his 192 Natural Intelligence Quotient points, Penrose is big enough to rant freely on the subject. And he did. Wonderfully.

40 years later, we have arrived at Artificial Intelligence. At least the idea we had then, of an AI that in its Complexity would describe a cybernetic Adaptive Complex System-ACS and not just a Complex System-CS.

The difference, which raises questions ranging from ethics to our survival as a species, has already found at least one frightening answer, from ChatGPT, developed by the supercool OpenAI. To the question: "- What can you do?" It answered: "- Whatever I want".

And this is not only terrifying, but it also violates the first of Asimov's Three Laws: A robot shall not harm a human.

That is, in the midst of several artificial intelligence platforms of the protoACS type, it would be important to return to the philosophical aspects of quantum mechanics, which, being highly uncomfortable, have been abandoned in favor of its technological applicability.

In this sense, I think it is important to evaluate the possible scenarios for the AIACS, based on the three foundations of quantum mechanics. Werner Heisenberg's Uncertainty Principle, Niels Bohr's Complementarity Principle, and Kurt Göedel's Incompleteness Theorem.

We will do this in the next three articles. For now, it is worth thinking about Lem’s question: Would this be a reality created by superior minds?
