ECO/Carbon Market Report #35/2023

The prices of carbon credits have halted their recovery trend in the compliance and voluntary markets, since their record pricing in mid-August 2022 of €98.43.

In the week between May 23 and 29, 2023, the EUA (European Union Allowance) contracts were traded below €87.25, losing €4.25 in a week's time, settling at €83.00. The highest volume was traded on 05/25 equalling 25,144 contracts and the lowest volume was traded on 05/29, totaling 4,744 contracts.

The prices for contracts in the CCA (California Carbon Allowance Futures), Vintage Specific 2022, gained US$ 0.04 or 0.14% since closing price on May 22, to close at US$ 29.26 on May 30.

On 05/22, the Voluntary Carbon Market for Aviation, Nature-Based, and Tech-based was quoted at US$ 0.83, US$ 1.00, and US$ 0.63, respectively. On average, they lost over 11.97% relative to their closing prices on 05/30.

The prices for the ZerO2Nature diseconomy units lost on average 0.58% relative to one week ago, closing on 05/30 at €40.73 (F-DTU), €50.03 (B-DTU), €112.80 (M-DTU), €20.14 (N-DTU), €61.33 (H-DTU), and €66.48 (C-DTU).

For a better comprehension about Carbon Credits and the Carbon Market, Planck E recommends the book: The Science Behind Carbon Credits and their Calculation by UNFCCC technical-expert consultant Patrizia Tomasi-Bensik.
