Big Bang: Seriously?

“To achieve the impossible; it is precisely the unthinkable that must be thought.”

Tom Robbins

One of my most read articles on our Presscenter is Planck's Wall.  Probably because I talk about the genius scientist's time within a very limited possibility: if there was a big bang, then this is its time.

In other words, in a given scenario -which I don't have to agree with- this is my conclusion.  This is Max Planck's position on the Big Bang.  He and of all the greats of physics.

Okay, I agree: Stephen Hawking went further and proposed alternative singularities, Big Bang and Big Crunch.  But only because he was a genius.  The difference between brilliant theoretical physicists and the rest of humanity goes back to the simple story of how the gods of Olympus came to be, which, se non è vero, è bene trovato, as the Italians say.

According to legend, a community of well-educated, extremely sophisticated people, with hygienic and dietary habits comparable to those of today, lived completely isolated from the rest of the population on a high point of Mount Olympus, which, at almost three thousand meters high, was forbidden to the Greeks.  In one of these moments of synchronicity, a peasant climbs a little further up the hill, while a young woman from the sophisticated community descends beyond the limits.  The gods are created.

Brilliant theoretical physicists propose scenarios.  This is not a discovery or a revelation.  It is an exercise of the imagination, and in these scenarios, they seek confirmation.  All theoretical.

The problem of Consensus, very close to the peasant who sees the beauty, is the need to leave an ordinary life.

So we believe -scientifically- that 14 billion years ago something the size of a marble exploded and created time, space, and the Universe.  Don't ask what came before, because logic says if there was nothing before, there was no reference.

And let's go from there.
