“Out of intense complexities, intense simplicities emerge.”
Winston Churchill
The definition of emergent properties applies to a lot; especially physics and biology.
In physics, the interrelationships of patterns that gain complexity reach an organizational level that results in something greater than the sum of their parts. For example, the manifestation of the photon as a particle or wave.
In biology there is no better example than the chain of mitoses and meiosis that occur from the union of an egg and a sperm, giving rise to life.
Emergent properties do not need new definitions like the fifth force or frills to explain their origin. Ingrained in elementary particles, they will certainly emerge, as long as the interrelations reach the necessary complexity.
Thus, at each organizational level, new properties emerge and these would be completely unpredictable from their previous level.
To be clear. Occurrence is the perfect combination of accuracy and precision that begins in potentiality, narrows through increasing complexity to possibility, which continues narrowing to probability, and finally decays into occurrence.
It is important to note that all contexts from potentiality to probability occur in entropic time. Or, a time intrinsically linked to the context; while the occurrence decays in the Arrow of Time for an instant that we know as reality and returns to its initial condition, perpetuating itself in the original context.
Yes. Past, present, and future are concepts. All we have is the instant. An emergent property of the complexity of interrelationships that occur in a context shaped by entropic time.
