“Life is beautiful...If you're clean.”
At Planck E, we are always on the lookout for the next great solution, and for that, we look for examples in Nature that, thanks to Janine Benyus, are now scientifically treated as Biomimetics.
Did you know that an astronaut stays up to six days in the same diaper? So it is. In 2016, Planck E proposed PLEURASUIT® to NASA.
PLEURASUIT® is a biomimetic solution that mimics the functioning of the human respiratory system. The removal of waste occurs by means of suction. As the solid parts are chemically treated and pulverized, the liquids flow into an inner layer of the orange spacesuit. The storage capacity depends on the area of the PLEURASUIT®, which can be removed and replaced by a new one.
The crew member interacts with the PLEURASUIT® starting with connecting the adapter-manifold to the genitals. It is a soft, flexible, and hypoallergenic material that does not create discomfort. The rest of the process does not require any intervention from the crew. Placement and fixation of the PLEURASUIT® should not take more than 10 minutes. As the PLEURASUIT® is an inner layer, it can be removed and replaced with a new one whenever the crew member wishes.
The PLEURASUIT® can be adapted to the size and weight of the orange suit.
Like the human pleura, the PLEURASUIT® is a watertight chamber with adequate expansion capacity to retain the accumulation of gases and being completely inert, it does not pose any threat to the health and safety of the crew member; in addition to being fully ergonomic, ensuring the comfort of the crew at all times.
Who knows in Artemis 2?
