Artificial Intelligence and NTPC

“There are no norms.  All people are exceptions to a rule that doesn’t exist.”

Fernando Pessoa

From the moment we realize that a computer - except for HAL 9000 - never asks itself what will happen to it if the city suffers a blackout, it becomes clear that self-organization and a certain degree of learning are possible in Artificial Intelligence, but it is very difficult to find solid ground to develop the thesis of the emergence of consciousness through the increasing complexity in the interrelationships of patterns realized by it.

For Francisco Varela, our consciousness is just that: an emergent property of the extremely complex interrelationship of patterns.  However, the brilliant Chilean biologist and philosopher make it clear that this only happens under certain ecological conditions.

It is not only the brain that exists within the body, but this body within the world, and the brain that interprets the metabolic signals that reach it through the neurons; the brain that stores experience; the brain that answers the question of HAL 9000 in the affirmative, and the brain that dreams.

In one of those frightening experiences in the 1950s, a group of children were isolated and although all their basic needs were met, there was no adult around to guide them.  As a result, the study proved that under these conditions, homo discovers two things: sex and God.

If we create consciousness, are we God?
