“Nothing exists except atoms and empty space.
Everything else is opinion.”
Democritus
One of the first articles I wrote for the Planck E press center was about Planck's wall or the instant after the big bang. Today I'm going to talk about the moment before. And, I must confess, never before has the sentence by Democritus that opens this article made so much sense to me.
Current science insists on the thesis that the universe originated from emptiness. However, this same science pulls us out of our comfort zone by stating that this emptiness would not be something calm, or inert. Worse, this science, which tends toward a frightening conceptual bipolarity, claims that this emptiness contains energy.
Let me explain the bipolarity. In his formula E=MC2, Einstein clearly demonstrates that M=E/C2 or that energy and mass are equivalent, while the quantum void is full of energy but devoid of matter.
So the void is filled with waves of energy. Yes, I see the contradiction clearly, but the theory is not mine. I'm just the messenger.
At a given moment... I can't call it a moment because time doesn't exist... Okay. In a certain context, the energy waves of this void expand, in a process known in quantum mechanics as inflation, and something infinitely smaller than a hydrogen atom inaugurates the concept of matter.
