The Present Peacekeeper

Do not dwell in the past, do not dream of the

future.  Concentrate the mind on the present moment.”

                                                                                                         Buddha

At the quantum level, all that exists are anonymous, high-energy particles.  This means that fundamentally there is no matter, no time, no reality, and no self.

Obviously, the unanswered question is how Complexity works.  How the sophistication in the interrelationships of these particles creates sufficiently stable patterns to establish reality, Consensus, and the self.

Starting from the result, in search of this beginning, let us concentrate on what seems to happen, at this point in our knowledge.  Since consciousness is still hermetically mysterious to us, let's focus on the beauty of the brain.

It is probably the activity of the brain that causes our metabolism to grasp the Arrow of Time.  The sensory organs that make up the five senses send data to the brain, which integrates it into a mental representation.  This process occurs through the simultaneous operation of multiple brain regions.  Thus, the coordinated action of immense volumes of neurons creates an emergent biological state that lasts no more than hundredths of a millisecond.

Before a synapse reaches its end, another complex of neurons bifurcates from the first, and this guarantees us the dogmatic sensation of moving forward on the Arrow of Time.

The present is only the pacifier of our ancestral fears, even if the Arrow of Time takes us to death.
