The World's Memory

“Memory is the treasury and guardian of all things.”

Marcus Tullius Cicero

Even if we are traveling on very thin ice, I think we can agree that the perception of an external object in the present cannot simply be classified as our creation.

However, on the whole, the complexity of our perception of the world is the result of the atavistic accumulation of stable patterns from time immemorial.  It was Grandpa Petey Neanderthal who noticed the pain caused by bumping into that primeval rock.

In keeping with the chicken-and-egg dilemma, it is the constant repetition of the rock-bumping pattern that gives it stability.  Especially when all of us (or almost, not to get into the obnoxious extremes) perceive and reinforce the same interrelationships that thus gain complexity, stability, and materiality.

If quantum mechanics assures us that nothing exists in itself, our metabolism must be extremely malleable to combine different events without excluding them.

I find it very interesting to observe that different species with completely different metabolic arrangements perceive.  What is non-real for all other species, only for that particular metabolic complex, is real.

Look at the depth of this: the interpretation of what a plant perceives is a crazy unreality for us, even if we are talking about the same ray of sunlight.
